“…O, none, unless this miracle have might,
That in black ink my love may still shine bright.”
– from William Shakespeare’s Sonnet 65
Love is the ultimate miracle. It brightens the ink of a poet’s pen. It gentles the cry of babes. It tames nations, feeds the hungry, and inspires good.
Valentine’s Day traditionally celebrates love between couples, but I like to think of it as a day that celebrates being love as much as being in love. Imagine the powerful transformation we can create in our lives when we strive to achieve true love as a state of being.
Love, like the element Quintessence, permeates all nature. It flows in us, through us, and all around us, from the cellular level to celestial bodies. Great masters, like the Dalai Llama, live and act in a state of love every day, inspiring the hearts and minds of humankind to change for the better.
Our human capacity for love is boundless, but, like our brains, we only use a small percent of this miracle’s gift. When we take the time to sit quietly, perhaps with a candle, and regularly meditate on being in a state of love, we can tap into love’s essence in its purest and most concentrated form deep inside ourselves.
It is in that state of Quintessential Love that we find ourselves able to forgive and heal not only ourselves and those around us, but on a planetary scale. In this highest vibration, we can resonate love in transcendent echoes in time and space, sounding though seas and mountains, ending wars and healing misery. We can do all this and more, beginning with that quiet, limitless space within our own hearts. Love is the true miracle.
Happy Valentine’s Day,
